BELLA GAIA (Beautiful Earth) successfully simulates space flight, is a 'Living Atlas' multimedia journey of our world, and expresses the deeply moving beauty of planet Earth as seen through the eyes of astronauts. Created by award winning director and classically trained violinist Kenji Williams, and in collaboration with NASA, BELLA GAIA (TM) features live performances by Williams and world music artists against a large-screen backdrop of orbiting visualizations of Earth from space.

regarding our imperiled eco-systems while also celebrating the amazing cultural heritage of humanity.A “Living Atlas” journey of our planet, BELLA GAIA creates a direct experience and connection with the creative forces of Earth. BELLA GAIA uses the media-rich languages of today to present audiences compelling visualizations of scientific data, natural systems and humanity’s impact on nature in a way that taps audience’s emotional intelligence and facilitates deeper cognitive understanding of today’s complex issues.
BELLA GAIA tells the story of the Living Universe, exploring both human and natural expressions of the Living Universe through dance, data visualizations, and music, and explores humanity’s ultimate challenge as we enter a new epoch called the Anthropocene; where humans become the driving force of environmental change on planet Earth. Recognizing BELLA GAIA’s ability to engage and inspire a wide demographic, NASA recently awarded a half-million dollar grant for BELLA GAIA’s education platform for k-12 students across the country.
Mission Statement:
BELLA GAIA is an audio-visual presentation that illuminates the connections between natural systems and human activities and inspires audiences to act as stewards for our shared resources. We Need Your Help to Continue and Expand! Inspired by astronauts who spoke of the life changing power of seeing the Earth from space, award winning filmmaker and composer Kenji Williams created BELLA GAIA to simulate this trans-formative effect called the “Overview Effect”. Working closely with NASA’s scientific visualization studio, the award winning BELLA GAIA successfully simulates space flight, taking the audience on a spectacular journey around planet Earth.
The Production:
BELLA GAIA is a scalable production, from 10-80 minutes, featuring a live performance by Kenji (solo) or as the spectacular BELLA GAIA 6 piece Ensemble concert of world music performers represented by APA Agency. The BELLA GAIA Ensemble features Live; Deep Singh (Tabla, Voice, Percussion), Yumi Kurosawa (Koto), Lety ElNaggar (Nay, Sax), Kristin Hoffmann (Voice, Keys), Irina Akulenko (Dance), Lale Sayoko (Dance), Kenji Williams (Violin, Laptop)
