Meet Flynn McGarry: 14 year Old Culinary Artist & Creative Confidant

Flynn McGarry: 14 year Old
Culinary Artist & Creative Confidant
January 2013

I love a 'human' story that IS SIMPLE and yet embraces creativity and Q~Energy style. Flynn McGarry is a 14 {now 18} year old Chef in the USA. His mother did not enjoy foods or designing meals. He did. So three years ago, he set up a huge kitchen in his bedroom and tested amazing foods and artistry and Googled his mentoring via the internet...Fast forward.

He is now invited to create in NY and LA..to share with the other 'experienced' and recognized chefs in exclusive locales and offer his creations.. His passion is palpable. Flynn McGarry How did his parents react? McGarry's mother said she fully supports her son and, ultimately, it was "not a choice" to allow him to pursue cooking. "He is progressing so fast and it is super overwhelming, but it is also exciting," she said. "You are always proud of your children's accomplishments. He showed such passion for this that it was an obvious choice to allow him to do what he loves to do."

When you listen and feel your passions and your choices...age is simply not a limitation. Too Young or Too Old is simply a belief. Be compassionate towards yourself if you feel this way. Open your pallet to a new recipe. Pause and breath. Imagine and unleash. Allow and experience.

His Current Backstory:

Flynn McGarry is the youngest chef in NYC’s fine-dining scene. At the age of just 17, he’s serving a 16-course tasting menu at Eureka, a pop-up hosted at the chef’s counter inside Kava, which is a European-style cafe by day. McGarry’s food is imaginative and delicious, with courses that include dishes like sea water-brined urchin with carrots and Ritz crackers. The cost of the tasting menu is $160 per person.

A wine pairing is an extra $90, but unfortunately for McGarry, he isn’t old enough to drink any. He may be young, but he’s certainly not inexperienced. When he was just 13 years old, NBC Nightly News called him “one of the hottest chefs in America.” In the past few years, he’s hosted pop-ups at high-end venues like Eleven Madison Park in NYC and Maeemo in Norway.

Of course, some chefs are skeptical of McGarry’s ability to pull this off, but there’s no disputing that he’s managed to assemble an impressive resume at a very young age. Watch him plate his tasting menu above.
